North Wexford Gamers

The North Wexford Gamers are a group of social gamers who enjoy playing most Games Workshop games but especially Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40k.  Based in and around Gorey, they meet regularly for social games and are well-know attendees at events throughout Ireland.

One of the highlights of the gaming year is the North Wexford Gamers annual tournament.  In 2009, this took place in the Loch gCarman Arms Hotel in Gorey and attracted thirty-two players to Ireland’s first ranking Warhammer Fantasy Battle tournament.  This year’s event will take place in the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey and will cater for both Ireland’s first Warhammer Fantasy Battle tournament for eighth edition and for a Warhammer 40k tournament.  A special side-event is planned for non-competitive players who wish to enjoy the weekend’s events too.  This event will take place on October 9th/10th and will feature five rounds for both gaming systems.

As a social bunch, the North Wexford Gamers have travelled to Ballymena, Cork and Dublin for tournaments and Drogheda for inter-club games against the Drogs of War.  While generally the social element is more important to the club, Derek “Jarvis” Mitchell and Nigel “Brooklyn” Kavanagh have both represented the Irish Warhammer team in the UK and at the European Team Championships in Germany and Nigel is the captain of the Irish Warhammer team for 2010.

The North Wexford Gamers produce a regular(ish!) podcast detailing the current gaming scene in Ireland and this is available on iTunes with information on the Wargaming Ireland forum (w-ired.org/forum).
