Post Nurgle CSM and Demons
Here is a WIP of Nurgle GUO- the start of my latest project (now necrons are 99% done)

Loving 6th and kind of bored with fantasy at the moment so I am concentrating on 40k and getting a nurgle force ready for Warpcon in Jan.

Rummaging around the attic yesterday morning and found the FW guo (thought i had sold it!) so while i am waiting for a few models to arrive I thought I would get started with the big guy

airbrushed sand yellow washed with gryphone sepia

maybe eventually - the plan is for a CSM death guard force with a demon allied contingent.

Very nice work, very different to the other FW Great Unclean ones I have seen, and easily the best.

while waiting for some tamiya red to arrive so i can finish the guo i started work on a blight drone and a test marine - wasnt happy with the traditional green test models i had done so I decided to go for the pre heresey look on the marines - had loads of fun painting him and took less time than the green armoured testers

I dont know whether blight drone should now have same armour as space marine? still i might mix and match who cares!

Here is a the first step by step for the plague marines.

anyhow trying this out - feel free to add layers, be a bit neater etc - the final step (pigments, chipping etc tends to cover up most of the mistakes!

first step - over a grey primer i painted with a tank brush valejo air yellow sand (can be airbrushed on)
they wash the whole model with gryphonne sepia - straight from the pot

Image

Next I paint the armour on streaky style mixing white with the sand yellow 3 layers last is white - here feel free to paint neatly etc - painting in streaks is a lot quicker and once all the mig products are applied imo adds to the look im going for
Image

Fill in the blocks - trim, weapons pipes etc

Once that is done the fun begins!!

Thanks emrys its great when people do a step by step walk through I can't wait to see the work with the pigments I've used them myself before & I know they really add a lot to a model.

i like doing the step by steps - it helps me remember colour schemes if i go back to an army after a gap of a few months!

applying the pigments is straight forward - with a dry brush i put the pigment where i want it to be rusting, then use the lighter rust for contrast.- the brown wash is applied in around the rivets and pulled down so it looks like dried in leaking oil and then with a bit of blister sponge i dab boltgun on random points of the model and finally apply red yellow glazes on different spots.

Image

and here is a closer shot - not quite finished (i need to tidy up a few spots were i got carried away :8) and obviously the bases.

well a usable painted army should be ready by warpcon. I am assuming the Chaos book is coming out in the next couple of weeks so i hope to have some playable version of the army on the table early next month.

As it is a death guard force i plan to have 28 marines in units of 7 (if its still allowed in the new rules) and at least one dread it whatever list I do

Wow Ugo they look gorgeous. Can't wait to see them in the club. Avoid a close combat dread if u are going down that road since CC dreads took a huge hit this edition. Take two ranged weapons i would however ill even tho its not competitive i will take one on my world eaters dread but well it eaters so its fluffy :p

he will have a CC weapon (the FW nurgle claw is too awesome to leave out!)

i prefer using models i like to paint rather than their functionality - be ready for a massive update during the week - am waiting on some bitz to arrive to start working on the remaining plague marines so Ill be basing/airbrushing a dread, nurgleized decimator (cheers eamonn!) plague hulk and another a blight drone tomorrow with the aim to have them all finished by the end of the month ;p

bit sidetracked this week so not much done here is a test pic of a plague bearer for the allies contingent.

Went purple rather than green - what to you think?

I like the purple on the plaguebringer, not like one I have ever seen before, it has a real rotting look to it.

Cheers -wasnt happy with my test PB's using various greens so i used my zombie flesh recipe (dheneb stone, purple wash(with a little medium) then dheneb stone again, DS+white, white ,followed by the washes.

Considering how good the PB looks the recipe of yours seems surprisingly...trying to find the word here to not sound insulting but get across what I mean... it sounds easy/simple to apply. Did it take long? I mean, I know washes take time to dry, but could you churn out a bunch of nice PBs like that relatively quickly?

Took about 15 minutes excluding drying times - he was the test model probably give extra 5-10 minutes per model not I have decided on the scheme

Painting for me is all about maximum effect with minimum effort! :D
