Post Brocon 2011
Hi all,

After a good enough start last year Brocon is back this summer with an aim to rise to a higher standard. After carefully taking into account all reviews of last year UL Gsoc and the LDC are proud to present Brocon 2011.

Location: EGO10, University of Limerick
Price: 10euro day pass, 15euro weekend pass, 5euro tournament entry
Date: 16th-17th of July

Warhammer Fantasy: 2400pt two day tournament
Warhammer 40,000: 1750pt two day tournament

This will be a ranking event.

The main concerns we heard from last year was the lack of focus on the individual events; they were only one-dayers and it was a one man job. This year I will TO the events and I have Jason Lane helping me out on collecting scores and other admin work and will have a number of player judges that will be confirmed closer to the date though we already have a few who have confirmed they will do it.

It is early days yet but over the coming weeks the maps of campus as well as details for local accommodations and public travel services will be provided. We hope to see you all there. Though I doubt anyone will know at this early stage, but if you want to put your name down for either event I'll add you to the list as space restrictions in the hall will likely lead to a cap on players (though we're talking in the 40's for each event here, or an uneven split as is likely considering 40k's superior popularity).

Jonny Fisher, Paul Quigley and Richard Flood will be player judges for the 40k event.

Lists and queries can be sent to wargaming@ulbrocon.com

Good to see BroCon back - it's a bit close to both the 6 Nations and ETC so I won't say whether I'll be there or not until I know if I've made the team.

While its close to the 6 nations and Switzerland I am sure if its an ETC style rules-pack a lot of the players going to Switzerland would be interested in more competitive practice games. I would and will be trying to get down to this even if it means sleeping in the car.

It'll be a similar style to the ETC for Fantasy as far as army restrictions are considered, but there are a good few gripes that I have with the current ETC set-up that will be different particularly changing a tonne of the games actual rules and leaving out scenarios; would still for fairly good practice compared to a non-comp though leading up to it.

Put me down too please. Michael Foreman - WAC

With regards the 40K rulespack - Could we get some sort of variety from literally *every* other con this year, with regards missions? Rulebook missions are great once or twice, but when its every con, they get mighty boring.

If the missions are varied, even in small ways, it makes things much more interesting. As long as its made clear at the start of each game what the changes are etc, then all should be good.

If you want to stage some stupid Arcanacon-style event then go ahead and do it. "Interesting" missions are usually under-playtested and detract from an event. Those with easier rulespacks that everybody understands are usually better attended.

As Slick Willy said: K.I.S.S.

Just look at him, you can't argue with this:

Same as Stormy here. I like play-tested, solid rulebook missions when I'm dropping large sums to attend a tourney. So I'm a provisional yes here for the 40k.

I'm sexually attracted to the 3 previous posters so I'll agree with them.

i was going to suggest the ETC missions for 2011, as there maybe folks needing practise and they're different, christ are they what. Still i'll pass them on to you Jay when they get finalised and you can decide yourself. or have a vote, or something.

I'll be having a chat with the GM James soon enough and we can get the first draft sorted out then. I'll take a blast over to TWF in a minute to take a look at these ETC missions you mention Floody. I'll certainly be getting feedback from the 40k community about it all though; seems to me there a lot less variations in rules in 40k tournies with no need for comp. so should make getting opinions easy.
