 Gaelcon 2010
Gaelcon 2010 takes place in the D4 Hotel, Ballsbridge on October 22nd-25th. Included in this weekend of gaming is a Warhammer Fantasy Battle tournament and a Warhammer 40k tournament. Both of these events are six round affairs, with Fantasy using 2500 points and 40k using 1750 points.
I've uploaded the rulespacks here.
Edit: The rulespacks have been updated and re-uploaded on August 28th.

Nice tight rulespack on the 40K side.

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
Doubt I'll head to this with the Limerick event the week after, though it seems like a good enough rulespack. Must say though that I am surprised that the Watchtower is being used in a tournament considering it tendency to be terribly broken and one-sided.

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
I'm hoping to make this one. It's three weeks after NWG so it'll be great to actually play some eighth edition tournaments!

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
Craig Murphy- a WAC gent is doing the 40k, I'm not sure who's doing the Fantasy. 40k pack is tight, I expressed my concerns about the 2 KP difference needed to win killpoint missions but they're adamant that I will improve the game. Also a little difference here and there can't be all bad!
Also six games is going to be fun and a good idea (You may commence jokes about Brocon bunnyruns, though I've heard them all at this stage) Any idea what the max attendance is going to be?

Fantasy - Dave Chambers, also of WAC. Quote: Any idea what the max attendance is going to be? As of now, 40 for 40k and 20 for Fantasy IIRC. There's already 15 places taken up from interested parties down here for 40k. Quote: Doubt I'll head to this with the Limerick event the week after, though it seems like a good enough rulespack. Must say though that I am surprised that the Watchtower is being used in a tournament considering it tendency to be terribly broken and one-sided. Limerick event the week after? Moar details please, as long as its not Fantasy. Watchtower - I agree. You draw automatically if a Screaming Bell destroys it...

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
Where abouts in Ireland is Gaelcon, Dublin? Regarding Limerick being a week after Gaelcon, which (in the opinion of those that have attended both) is the... er... better tournament. I don't think that I could manage Gorey, Gaelcon and Limerick if they're all so close together .

care to explain sir? Stormbrow II wrote: Limerick event the week after? Moar details please, as long as its not Fantasy.
It's both. I told you about it 2wks ago and you said ye aren't going 'cause of Gaelcon. It's on October 30th/31st. Garry hasn't given me any details yet. Good job Craig. Will almost deffo be attending this as will a few of the Skibb Wargamers.
I would have liked for the second objective game to be only 3 objectives, but it is a small concern.

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
A pity both events are on at the same time. €28 is a little steep for a con tournament as well. Not sure if I'll go yet.

Not really, most 2 day tourneys are around the 30 squid mark (the laptop won't let me do a Euro symbol) so its not excessive. FFS, Q-Con was 40 pound per person (my keyboard is more tempermental than a hormonal woman for some reason) and that was a shitehawk team tournament. The accommodation for those non-tainted (i.e. non-Jackeens) will probably be more damaging. Still, you can always buy cheap drink in a supermarket before you go.

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
Hello all! I met Craig in Other Realms a little while back, and he told me all about Gaelcon this year. Really looking forward to having a blast with my mechEldar!
Nice rules pack for 40k for sure - I'm loving the amount of objective-based games. Have to convert or buy parts for my second falcon and then I'm sorted!
It's great that we have 1750 points to play with. For Eldar at least, 1500 points can really make things difficult to get just the right amount of everything. Now, I can fit all my favourites into a straight-up, fast in-yo-face space elf list!

Well if I can go to NWG for €30, then €28 is expensive for a con, particularly as the tournament quality and attendance for Gaelcon tend to be poor in my experience.

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
Quality and attendance on the 40K side has been traditionally better than FB. Seems to take more to get you FB lads to load up the forklift to move the army.
Either way it's nice to have gone from Gealcon all on it's ownsome to NWG, Gaelcon and unknownLimrickcon filling up the roster of events

 Re: Gaelcon 2010
I'm actually building up a 40k army so I'm wondering if on the day I can bring both armies and do a "Ken"
"Ken"- refers to an incident where Ken went to compete in the 40k at Retacton but got roped into fantasy on the day

I could prob bring my DA toys up too, seeing as the 1750 list consists of 26 models! That way maybe we could play an honour/bragging rights game over the course of the weekend. I mean I know the DA codex is awfull, but surely they can beat up a few girls right, right???

Quote: Well if I can go to NWG for €30, then €28 is expensive for a con, particularly as the tournament quality and attendance for Gaelcon tend to be poor in my experience. The past few years had seen a decline in quality alright but last year's one got a very positive response from all the people I spoke with. Its continued the trend of not having any comp or silly scenarios/missions so its going to get a decent crowd again. Quote: NWG, Gaelcon and unknownLimrickcon filling up the roster of events Are you not worried about there being oversaturation?
